BMW Concept ActiveE - A Press Released Issued On 17th Dec 2009.

BMW Concept ActiveEBMW Concept ActiveEBMW Concept ActiveEBMW Concept ActiveEBMW Concept ActiveEBMW Concept ActiveE

Character:

• Concept study of a purely electrically powered model based on the BMW 1 Series Coupé. The BMW Concept ActiveE

represents a consistent continuation of the research and development activities of the BMW Group relating to electromobility as part of project i. A concept which realizes CO2-free mobility in BMW style is presented.

• The BMW Concept ActiveE is the BMW Group’s second vehicle after the MINI E to be developed as part of project i. After the successful launch of the pilot project MINI E, the BMW Group announces the development of another field test of electric vehicles for private and selected fleet users. The aim is to test the use of electric drive for everyday purposes in a vehicle which offers the driving pleasure which is characteristic of BMW automobiles.

• The specific features of the BMW Concept ActiveE include rear-wheel drive as is characteristic of BMW, a powerful drive system for dynamic acceleration maneuvers and a high level of efficiency to enable the vehicle to be used for purposes which go beyond urban mobility.

• The vehicle concept also comprises an extended range of functions with a high level of practical relevance. The intelligent arrangement of the drive components makes it possible to provide four full-size seats and a luggage compartment volume of some 200 liters (7 cubic feet).

• On the way to achieving CO2-free mobility, the BMW Group continues to develop electric drive as an additional mainstay of BMW Efficient Dynamics. Electric drive provides an additional option for a lasting form of individual mobility alongside the ongoing optimization of all models with a pure combustion engine, the market launch of BMW Active Hybrid technology in serial production vehicles and the BMW Hydrogen 7 as evidence of the suitability of hydrogen drive for everyday use.

Technology:

• The BMW Concept ActiveE is powered by a new synchronous electric motor specially developed for this vehicle. Its maximum output is 125 kW/170 bhp, the maximum torque of 250 Nm / 184 lb-ft is available from standing as is typical for electric motors and remains available over an unusually broad load range.

• For the first time, electrical energy is stored in a lithium-ion battery pack developed jointly by BMW and the co-operation partner SB LiMotive especially for the BMW Concept ActiveE. A new stable temperature regulation function optimizes the battery pack’s performance.

• Other characteristics of the drive technology used in the BMW Concept ActiveE are the weight-reduced construction and the package-optimized arrangement of all components. The electric motor is completely integrated in the rear axle, the power electronics is positioned above the motor. Space is used for energy storage which in vehicles powered by a combustion engine would be taken up by the conventional drivetrain and fuel tank. With a weight of some 1,800 kilograms / 3900 lbs (unladen weight according to DIN), a low center of gravity and an axle load distribution which is typical of a BMW, the vehicle has everything it requires to provide the dynamic driving properties and agile handling in the style of the BMW 1 Series.

• Predicted driving performance figures: acceleration from zero to 60 km/h (37mph) in less than 4.5 seconds and from zero to 100 km/h (62mph) in less than 9 seconds, maximum speed: approx. 145 km/h (90 mph, electronically limited). As with the MINI E, the real-world range is expected to be about 160 km / 100 miles on a single charge, depending on conditions (FTP72 cycle range is calculated to be 240 km / 150 miles in simulation).

• Flexible charging technology enables the lithium-ion battery pack to be recharged by a conventional power outlet at public charging stations or at a special wall box. On the European grid, the battery pack can be fully charged at a high-current power outlet (50 ampere) in as little as 3 hours. In North America, using a high-current (32 ampere continuous) residential wall box, the charge time is about 4.5 hours.

• The drive components used in the BMW Concept ActiveE have been developed as part of project i. The objectives on which this is based are derived from the requirements for the serial production development of a Megacity Vehicle.

• In the BMW Concept ActiveE, new BMW ConnectedDrive services are presented which have been designed exclusively for use in an electric vehicle. This includes specific remote functions which enable the use of a mobile phone to check the charge status of the battery, search for public charging stations and activate the vehicle’s auxiliary heating and air conditioning functions.

Design:

• The BMW Concept ActiveE is based on the BMW 1 Series Coupe. It embodies a new interpretation of the agility which is characteristic of the 1 Series. For the first time, CO2-free mobility and the driving pleasure characteristic of BMW are combined for up to four vehicle occupants in an electric vehicle concept.

• There is a clearly recognizable differentiation from the serial production model of the BMW 1 Series Coupe with the body finish in Liquid White metallic, as well as graphic elements derived from printed circuits in Electric Blue on the hood, doors, roof and trunk lid, as well as the lettering “ActiveE”, “eDrive” and “EfficientDynamics” on the doors and side panels. Specific light-alloy wheel wheels, the lack of an exhaust system and blue illuminated elements such as the roof fin and charging connection highlight the special character of this electrically powered concept vehicle.

• The interior of the BMW Concept ActiveE includes specific leather seats with embossed graphic elements and blue accentuated seams as well as interior strips in Liquid White with rear-lit three-dimensional graphics. The instrument panel and the central display have been enhanced to include display items specific to electric drive. The use of innovative remote functions as part of BMW ConnectedDrive is shown with the example of a smart phone connection which is fully linked into the vehicle infotainment system.

- $ 360.00

Since I have decided to sale some BMW parts and accessories as well. So I am here with the Clear LED tail lights for BMW E46 3 Series. These tail lights are applicable on almost all the versions of E46 3 Series whether it is a Coupe, Convertible or Sedan models released from 19999 to 2005.

These are really high quality Red and smoked Euro LED lenses. The kit includes two rear lenses and two trunk lenses. LED tail lights rid your car of the orange color and update the newer LED tail light style. If you have yellowed aging tail lights there is nothing that will give your car a serious stealth look than a smoked set of tail lights. You can add it to the cart by clicking the image.

BMW ActiveHybrid X6.

The BMW Active Hybrid X6 is the world’s first Sports Activity Coupé
with full hybrid drive offering a driving experience quite unique both in
the segment of BMW X models and in the hybrid segment as a whole. Through its combination of a V8 gasoline engine and electric drive, the BMW Active Hybrid X6 offers a significant increase in dynamic performance together with a reduction of fuel consumption and emissions by approximately 20 per cent. This joint enhancement of driving pleasure and efficiency
clearly proves that the BMW Active Hybrid X6 is a typical BMW in the hybrid segment.

BMW Active Hybrid technology offers the driver three significant options: to drive under electric power alone, to use the power of the combustion engine, or to benefit form the combination of both drive modes. Driving completely free of CO2 in the electric mode is possible up to a speed of 60 km/h or 37 mph. The combustion engine then cuts in as required (as a function of load conditions) and is automatically switched off when driving in overrun at a speed of less than 65 km/h or 40 mph.

The drive system featured in the BMW Active Hybrid X6 consists of a 300 kW/407 hp V8 power unit with BMW Twin Power Turbo Technology and two electric motors developing 67 kW/91 hp and, respectively, 63 kW/86 hp. Maximum system output is 357 kW/485 hp, peak torque is 780 Newton-metres/575 lb-ft. This makes the BMW Active Hybrid X6 the most
powerful hybrid vehicle in the world.

Through its unique balance of performance and fuel economy the BMW Active Hybrid X6 sets new standards both in the hybrid vehicle segment and in the overall market of BMW X models. Acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h comes in 5.6 seconds. Average fuel consumption in the EU5 test cycle is 9.9 litres/100 km (equivalent to 28.5 mpg imp),
the CO2 emission rating is 231 grams/kilometer.

Electrical energy is stored in an Ni MH high-performance battery with
a capacity of 2.4 kWh. The temperature of the high-voltage battery is controlled as required and with maximum efficiency by liquid cooling interacting with the air conditioning and an external heat exchanger. Over and above the electric motors, the high-performance battery also supplies electrical energy to the power-consuming items linked to the 12-volt on-board network. The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is equipped with electromechanical power steering and an electrical climate compressor both remaining fully functional also when the combustion engine is switched off and enhancing the overall efficiency of the vehicle to an even higher standard through their on-demand consumption and uptake of energy.

The particularly prominent Power dome on the engine lid gives the
BMW Active Hybrid X6 a very distinctive look versus the “regular”
BMW X6 as a significant visual highlight. “Active Hybrid” model designations on the tailgate trim bar and on the front doors, the designation “BMW Active Hybrid” on the door entry covers on either side, 19-inch light-alloy wheels (or, as an option, 20-inch light-alloy
wheels in aerodynamically optimised Streamline design), as well
as exterior paintwork in exclusive Blue water metallic for the first time
on a BMW X6 serve furthermore to highlight the particular character
of this unique car.

The BMW Active Hybrid X6 combines innovative drive technology with
the unique concept of a Sports Activity Coupé. The very progressive
and exclusive character of this outstanding vehicle is further underlined
by a particularly wide range of standard features as well as attractive options. The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 comes as standard with features such as comfort seats, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, the BMW Professional navigation system and Park Distance Control.
A further important feature is the electrical opening and closing function on the tailgate. Options include an extended range of nappa leather upholstery in an exclusive Ivory White/Black colour combination complete with double blue seams, a glass sliding/vent roof, a trailer towbar, as well as the complete range of BMW ConnectedDrive including innovative driver assistance systems.

The safety features offered by the BMW Active Hybrid X6 include frontal and side airbags, head airbags at the side, crash-activated headrestsat the front, runflat tyres as well as a Tyre Defect Indicator enabling the driver to monitor the pressure individually in each tyre. BMW Adaptive Headlights complete with a Bending Light function supplement the bi-xenon headlights with their daytime driving lights featured as standard.

BMW E53 X5

The E53 X5 was the first X series available. It was introduced in 1999 and available
with a 4.4 litre V8, producing 286 HP. That same year, a 3 litre 6 cylinder with 231
horses was added. The X5 proved to be a huge succes, so in 2001 BMW added a
3 litre diesel and a 4.6is with 350 HP came available in 2002. Although not needed,
BMW thought it was time for a facelift, which came available at the end of 2003,
along with a new 4.4 litre V8, an updated 3 litre diesel and a whole new 4.8is.

The "Auto Trophy 2009" goes to the BMW X1, the BMW 1 Series Convertible and the new BMW brand campaign.

Sheer driving pleasure generates enthusiasm again and again. Two current models were able to win their respective vehicle categories in this year’s readers’ vote by the magazine “AutoZeitung”: the BMW X1 and the BMW 1 Series Convertible. What is more, the new brand campaign focusing on the characteristic feeling of joy conveyed by BMW was also awarded the “Auto Trophy 2009”. The award ceremony, held yesterday at the “Meilenwerk” in Berlin, was attended by Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management BMW AG, Dr. Klaus Draeger, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Development and Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management, Sales and Marketing.

The “Auto Trophy” is one of the most important automobile awards in Germany and was awarded for the 22nd time this year. Over 104,000 readers of “AutoZeitung” participated in the vote. They chose their favourites out of 370 current models in 27 categories. The BMW X1 won the category “Off-road vehicles up to 30,000 Euros” only a few weeks after its world premiere at the International Automobile Show in Frankfurt (IAA). The BMW X1, produced at the BMW plant in Leipzig since September, brings the particular style of sheer driving pleasure peculiar to BMW X vehicles to a model in the compact segment for the first time. After a successful market launch, the vehicle’s achievement in the “Auto Trophy” 2009 comes as no surprise. “With the BMW X1 we have captured the essence of the times. Customer response to date has been outstanding,” confirmed Board Chairman Dr. Norbert Reithofer at the award ceremony.

The open-top BMW 1 Series was able to repeat its success from last year in the vehicle category “Convertibles up to 30,000 Euros”. The elegant, sporty four-seater once again impressed the public with its aesthetic appeal characteristic of BMW convertible models coupled with the agility typical of the BMW 1 Series. Not only is the engine range unique, with four petrol and three diesel power units covering an output range of 105 kW/143 bhp to 225 kW/306 bhp, the efficiency of the BMW 1 Series Convertible is also remarkable. The benchmark is primarily set in this area by the BMW 118d Convertible, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds and in the EU test cycle achieves an average fuel consumption of 4.9 litres over 100 kilometres and a CO2 output of 129 grams per kilometre.

The “Auto Trophy” for the BMW 1 Series Convertible was received by Head of Development Dr. Klaus Draeger from the hands of TV presenter Barbara Schöneberger and Editor-in-Chief of "AutoZeitung” Volker Koerdt. Ian Robertson, Head of Sales and Marketing, was pleased to receive the award for the “best advertising of the year”. This prize also went to BMW for the second time in succession. After the launch campaign for the BMW 1 Series Coupé in 2008, this year it was the new brand campaign which met with an especially positive response. It makes “joy” - the core value of the brand BMW - the central theme of communication. Joy is conveyed in emotional style in TV commercials, on the internet, on posters and in print advertisements. The new brand campaign is designed for consistent use worldwide: through the theme of “joy” it focuses on two main points - the efficient dynamics and the aesthetic design of BMW brand vehicles.
